Dan Poortenga, Vice President

Dan has participated in dozens of transactions involving manufacturing, distribution and service businesses. He is particularly sensitive to the issues involved in family businesses, having grown up in a successful local family business—one that was eventually sold to a buyer from outside the family. Additionally, Dan has over 10 years of experience working in a senior position with small to medium-sized businesses in the financial services and manufacturing fields. Prior to joining the Charter Group, Dan was the Director of International Sales & Marketing for a well-known, high-end furniture manufacturer, and was involved in negotiating distribution agreements with dealers and distributors in the Middle East, Eastern and Western Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America.

Dan has a BA from Calvin College, a law degree (JD) and MBA from Suffolk University in Boston, and is admitted to the bar in Michigan and Massachusetts. He is a member and past Treasurer of the Henry Beets Mission Society at LaGrave Christian Reformed Church and sits on the Board of Trustees of the Ryerson Library Foundation in Grand Rapids, MI. Dan and his wife reside in East Grand Rapids with their four young children.
